Mrs. Mary Weaver
Music
Biography
Mary Weaver has been the director of sacred music for Holy Ghost Parish in Knoxville, Tennessee, since early 2020 and leads its English and Latin Mass choirs. In the early ’90s she discovered the joys of the Catholic musical tradition—Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony—and began the lifelong process of its exploration. She’s most grateful to have the opportunity to share those joys with her music students at the Chesterton Academy of St. Margaret Clitherow.
She has led liturgical choirs since 2008, when she founded the Pope Benedict XVI Schola. The schola was in residence at Holy Ghost from 2009 until the group disbanded in 2020 because of the covid-19 pandemic. From 2018 to 2020 she directed the Monsignor Xavier Mankel Schola (another casualty of covid) at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In 2022 she formed the St. John Henry Newman Schola for East Tennessee’s new Ordinariate community and led the group until September 2023.
Mary is a past president of the Knoxville Choral Society, a former member of its Knoxville Chamber Chorale, and a founding member of Harmonia Vocal Quartet. A long-time member of the Church Music Association of America, she assists the organization by creating its annual 300-page colloquium book and typesetting its Sacred Music journal.
She has a master’s degree in communications and worked in magazine, book, and online publishing for many years.
